South Normanton put derby defeat behind them

Third-placed South Normanton Athletic bounced back from their 2-1 Boxing Day local derby defeat by Pinxton to grab a 3-2 victory at Mickelover Royals on Saturday in the Central Midlands League South Division.

But they didn’t make it easy for themselves after Shane Newton gave them a fourth minute lead only to trail 2-1 on 50 minutes, even after Royals keeper Niall Mathe was sent off at 1-1

The Royals’ lead was against the run of play, but three substitutions did the trick for the Shiners as Newton headed an equaliser 10 minutes from time from a long Danny Roberts throw.

A minute later Lee Sutton grabbed the winner with a three-yard tap-in after which Royals lost their heads and finished with eight man after two more red cards for kicking, sparking trouble amongst supporters, too.

Pinxton were held 2-2 at Southwell City on Saturday and sit seventh.
