SLIDESHOW: Bad start for Shirebrook as Amateurs prevail

Shirebrook Town got off to a bad start in the NCEL Division One by going down 3-1 at home to Yorkshire Amateurs.

The game struggled to get going in the first half with both teams struggling to carve out chances with the closest any team got to breaking the deadlock being the visitors firing over the bar and it was no surprise that it was goalless at the break.

But the second-half burst into life two minutes in when Curtis Bernard was played in one-on-one with Spinks and although being taken out by the onrushing keeper, chipped the ball over him and into the net.

Shirebrook finally got going and in the 68th minute Osborne was taken out in the box and the ref was left with no option but to point to the spot. Osborne took the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way to level the scores.

Tthings went down hill for Shirebrook from that point and in the 73rd minute Joel Hughes restored the visitors’ lead, and Amateurs wrapped up all three points in the 85th minute when Carl Heard scored the third goal to put Shirebrook out of their misery after what had been a very poor performance from the home side.

Shirebrook travel to Knaresbrough Town in the league on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.
