"Hopefully, it seems that way," Siddall responded after being asked whether he had rediscovered his touch early in pre-season.

"We've had along time out because of COVID, so it's juts nice to start scoring again, and three in the last two's not a bad return."

Clipstone made it two wins in two as they followed up on Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory over a youth team from Chesterfield FC with a win against Glapwell.

The Cobras played some free-flowing attacking football at times but overall it was an unconvincing display against opponents from the Central Midlands League, one step below the Cobras in the non-league pyramid.

With several players unavailable, manager Dave Hoole took the opportunity to start four trialists with a view to getting them to sign up with the club.

It was one of the trialists who opened the scoring for Clipstone on seven minutes with a well-taken free kick from 25 yards out.

The Cobras had the better of the first period and Jack Warwick and Jack Siddall both missed good opportunities to extend the home side’s lead whilst Clipstone keeper Ryan Skidmore had little to do.

The Cobras made three changes at half time and were again the better side for opening minutes of the second period.

In the 53rd minute substitute Marcus Beddoe put Mitch Mullins in on goal with an excellent pass but the midfielder was denied by the Glapwell keeper’s legs.

Two minutes later the Cobras did grab a deserved second goal when Jack Siddall scored from close range, his third goal in two games, after Tom Weaver’s shot had come back off the post.

A defensive mix-up in the 58th minute allowed Aidan McTighe to get free and go round Skidmore and score.

Skidmore then produced a good save to deny McTighe in the 65th minute and the same player came close to equalising in the 77th minute but James McConnell was quick enough to get back and dispossess the striker.
