Hoping to build on their rousing midweek victory in the league cup, lethargic Rainworth were stunned by lowly Liversedge, who are one of the favourites for relegation after winning only six of their 30 league fixtures.

In a strong wind, both sides struggled to put their passes together for most of the first half, although Jordan Edridge and Liam Theakstone wasted presentable chances for Rainworth.

But in the 34th minute, an inexplicable decision to play a short goalkick against the wind, followed by a defender slipping, enabled Benny Igiehon to give Liversedge the lead.

Brandon Kane opened the second period by almost levelling with a long-range effort that rattled the bar, but Timmy Raheem doubled the hosts’ lead and although Jordan Edridge pulled one back on 79, Rainworth’s day to forget was capped by another comedy of errors at the back when Raheem was left the simplest of tasks.
