Shirebrook claim the win with late drama

A late red card and an even later goal for Bruno Holden helped Shirebrook Town to a 2-1 home win over Dronfield on Saturday.

The hosts who had most of the ball in the opening 20 minutes but struggled to do anything with it.

When they did have the ball in the net Cotton was denied a debut goal by the offside flag.

Dronfield then began to grow into the game but didn’t test Dennison in the Shirebrook goal.

Just as the half was drawing to a close Shirebrook were awarded a penalty and Holden was the man to step up and give Shirebrook the lead at the break.

The visitors came out a different side in the second half with wave after wave of pressure coming at the Shirebrook defense.

In the 82nd minute the pressure told, Thomas Fairweather levelling the scores.

But in the in the 85th minute the game took another turn when Dronfield were reduced to 10 men, Wilson picking up his second booking.

With a minute remaining, Holden was played in and chipped the onrushing keeper to secure the win.

Shirebrook Town are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Hall Road Rangers for a 3pm kick-off in the NCEL Division One.
