Both sides went into the game on the back of midweek victories, with the visitors making only one change – Ewan Robson making a welcome return to the starting XI – replacing the ill Liam Hearn.

The opening exchanges were even but the game came to life in the 15th minute. Tim Gregory produced a superb cross from the right wing that Kieran Wells met superbly to head Sherwood in front.

This sparked an incredible four-goal burst in 17 minutes as the visitors ran riot.

Gregory doubled the lead with an outrageous 20-yard volley after 20 minutes.

Wells got his second of the afternoon five minutes later, firing home from the edge of the penalty area.

The fourth goal came courtesy of Ethan Wiesztort who rounded the keeper after being found by the rampaging Gregory.

Belper did manage to force Josh Turton into action, the keeper saving well from a powerful header.

As the half closed both Lewis Belgrave and Wiesztort rattled the home crossbar as The Wood continued to surge forward.

The half did not go all for Sherwood however, with Carter Widdowson sent off after reacting to a tangle with Belper striker Richard Hanslow.

The second half saw Colliery manage the game in excellent fashion with Belper having little opportunity to create any chances thanks to the excellent organisation and work-rate of Sherwood.

It was the visitors who looked the more likely to score with Charlie Taylor heading wide from a corner kick and Gregory going close to his second.

It was no real surprise when Sherwood added a fifth goal as substitute Liam West managed to force the ball home after his pace had unsettled the Belper back line to score his first goal for the first team after a prolific spell in the reserves.

West almost turned provider late in the game after a rapid counter attack almost brought a sixth goal, but Nathan Clarke just strayed offside as the chance went begging.
