Serious injury mars big defeat for Cobras

Clipstone boss Micky Taylor said he would not put up with poor mentality as the Cobras slipped to a 7-1 loss at Ashby Ivanhoe .

The visitors were not helped by the loss of influential skipper Jason Gregory after 20 minutes with what looked like a serious ankle injury.

Clipstone trailed 2-1 at the break after Julian Topliss had hauled them level with a drilled free kick in the 37th minute.

But they fell away late in the second period and conceded five goals and the East Midlands Counties League points.

“In the first half we competed well but did not take our chances,” Taylor said.

“If we had we would probably have gone in leading at half-time.

“In the second half we dominated for the first 20 minutes and could have scored a few goals, but as soon as we went 3-1 down the mentality of the lads went . I will not put up with that.

Football does not end because we have been beaten 7-1. We will learn from it and go again next week.”

The Cobras, who lost central defender Charlie Taylor to Worksop Town leading up to the match, were hit by the injury to Gregory.

Micky Taylor said: “We have had a shocking week with players.

“Gregory is the heartbeat of the team and is a massive player for us.”
