Selston hit back to surge into cup final and set up double

In a tight tie played at the neutral venue of South Normanton Athletic’s Lees Lane ground, there was little to choose between the two sides and the first 64 minutes remained goalless.

Sherwood then took the lead with a strike from Liam Theakstone, but Selston levelled only three minutes later thanks to a Ben Moore penalty before their 81st minute winner that booked a ticket to the final against fellow South Division high-fliers, Hucknall Town, at Alfreton Town’s ground on Sunday, April 30.

Between now and the final, Selston need to concentrate on retaining their divisional title in what could be a heart-stopping finale. They currently trail leaders Eastwood Community by two points but whereas Eastwood have only one game to play, away to South Normanton this Saturday, Selston have three, away to Swanwick Pentrich Road on April 8, at home to Pinxton on April 22 and finally away to Southwell City on a date to be arranged.

League matches held on Saturday included a 1-0 home defeat for Southwell at the hands of Swanwick, with the only goal being scored by Jack Brown in the 21st minute. Pinxton were held to a goalless draw away to bottom-of-the-table Teversal Reserves.

In the North Division, FC Bolsover edged back to the top of the table after beating bottom team Welbeck Lions 6-0 in midweek thanks to goals from Daniel Russell (2), Daniel Mason (2) and Josh Thomas, plus an own goal. They now lead by one point with five to play.
