The Villagers resume training on 30th June meaning they will have an eight week pre-season should their Midland Premier League campaign resume in the first week of September.

“We will have a longer pre-season to get people back up to speed,” he said.

“A lot have been active during lockdown, but it has been restrictive as to what they can do.

“It is good to get the legs going now in a football sense and not just on a treadmill.

“It is the mental aspect as well, getting back with the lads and things like that is great - it has been a strange three months not seeing people for so long.

“We have had good guidance from the league and kept fully up to date with it all.

“It is a step in the right direction to get training again. We have just got to keep as safe as possible and enjoy getting back and kicking a football.”

Selston finished bottom of the aborted season last year as they made the step up in class and

“We had an assessment of what happened last season right from the beginning,” he added.

“We felt that the last 20 mins you could tell the difference in fitness and sharpness in getting to the ball quicker.

“The travelling side came into it for us. People were at work Saturday morning and then had to travel 90 mins on a minibus to the game and it’s tiring.

“Then to get out and go full pelt at a side that’s got academy lads in it is a big task. It is something that we feel we are more prepared for now we have seen it.

“We have brought a couple players in their mid-20’s in and three or four U21’s.

“It will give us a good balance to add to what we have got. We are trying to find the right sort of player that fits into what we have got, but is also going to add to the team as well.

“What we offer players is a group setting and togetherness. For the younger lads, if they use us as a stepping stone they go with our best wishes, we wouldn’t stand in their way.

“Then we try to bring in the next diamond and get them ready for the next step. That is the ethos of the club.”
