'˜Scoreline flattered us slightly,' says Rainworth boss Watts

Julian Watts admitted the 5-0 scoreline flattered his Rainworth side at Sandy Lane this afternoon, but was delighted with how clinical the Wrens were in the victory.

Watts revealed he has the luxury of a number of talented strikers in his squad at the minute.

“I think the scoreline flattered us slightly,” he said.

“We played well, it’s the best performance in a while. When you come here sometimes they will allow us to play and we’ve not really been getting on the ball well enough in recent games and have been stumbling over the line.

“All the things went right for us at the right times, the goals came at good times and in the end it killed them off.

“At the moment I’ve got an abundance of strikers, very good strikers and it’s difficult keeping them all happy.”

It wasn’t quite a flawless performance from the visitors, but they weren’t punished for their errors.

Watts said: “We did the same first half, made a couple of really daft errors trying to play out from the back at the wrong times.

“That was when I thought Worksop were likely to score, I don’t think they cut us open much, maybe once or twice in the first half.

“We cut those mistakes out, unfortunately for them they made a couple of bad passes and bad touches and we managed to finish them off.”

One of the highlights of the game for the Wrens was a sublime free-kick from Jack Barnett, a Worksop lad who previously played for the Tigers.

Watts enjoyed it as much as anyone.

“Jack’s a wonderful footballer, he’s played here before and he’s a great ball striker,” he said.

“He will have meant it. He’s just come back in the last couple of weeks, he’s a great footballer to have in the team.”

And two newboys, Jake Adlington and Ryan Herbert also impressed the boss.

He said: “I thought Jake at right-back did really well and Ryan who we’ve just signed from Worksop Under 21s looks like a very good footballer in the making.”
