Rimell bags double in Notts draw with Gedling

Notts County Ladies under-11s were twice pegged back at Gedling Southbank after an entertaining match ended all square at 2-2.

With a full squad to pick from, the girls continued from where they left off the previous week, working hard when they didn’t have the ball.

Starting with Rebecca Needham in goal, Ellie Barrow and Rosie Bradley in defence, Elena Gale and Sophie Wright in midfield and Mia Harrison and Ameliyah Rimell up front, the girls got off to a good start, passing the ball around well and forcing Gedling in to mistakes.

That bright opening was rewarded when the girls took the lead through some good work on the wing by Harrison, who carried the ball from nearly the half way line and then found Gale, whose own pass to Rimell was smashed past the advancing keeper.

Gedling upped their game and came into it more and more and were pressing hard for an equaliser, but the girls stood firm.

Growing in confidence and full of running, Sally Warsop-Hook and Alicia James coame on and worked hard in midfield and up front to put the opposition under pressure.

In the second half, attacking up the hill, Gale and Rimell combined well but were stopped by a well-organised defensive pair.

Gedling had the bit between their teeth and were pushing for an equaliser, which they eventually found thanks to a calm finish.

But James was having a stormer, at one point taking on three players on her own, and the team’s heads did not drop.

Notts were back in front when a quick throw saw Gale flick the the ball to Rimell, who turned to thump home a stunning volley.

However, the Magpies could not find a killer third goal and with not more than five minutes to go, Gedling scored with a slick counter-attacking move.

In the closing stages, the game could have gone either way, but in the end the score remained unchanged.

Needham was chosen as player of the match for her great performance and continuous improvement week in, week out.
