Retro: Mansfield Town ease past Crawley Town in 2015

Crawley Town are another of those sides with a limited history of games against the Stags, having only established themselves as a Football League club since 2010/11.

Overall the Stags have won six and drawn one of their 11 clashes and at home Mansfield have won four of their five encounters.

Only a 4-1 home reverse back in October 2010 in the Blue Square Premier League days blots their copybook.

Promotion-bound and big-spending, Steve Evans’ Crawley were already going to be tough to beat before Rhys Day was sent off on 52 minutes for an off-the-ball clash with the score at 1-1.

Sub Keigan Parker had levelled the game with a penalty just before the break.

But Crawley made use of their man advantage to cruise home in the end and that season was the only time they have ever recorded a ‘double’ over Mansfield.

Mansfield had to wait almost five years until Crawley were again visitors in League Two action. But in September 2015, Stags got their revenge with a 4-0 home win.

Nathan Thomas and Danny Rose had scored either side of half-time before a red card to Gwion Edwards saw Matt Green and Craig Westcarr comfortably finish the job.

The 4-0 win echoed the scoreline in our main Memory Match this week when Crawley had visited back on the opening day of the season in August 2009 when Kyle Perry netted a brace along with strikes by Rob Duffy and Jake Speight.

One of five debutants for boss David Holdsworth, Perry netted twice in the first half, either side of Duffy’s strike, before setting up sub Speight eight minutes from time.
