Regan Hendry 'slightly disappointed' as Mansfield Town 'could have won all three points' in Burton Albion clash

Mansfield Town midfielder Regan Hendry believes his side could have gone all the way against Burton Albion.

Stags were able to fight for a comeback draw after going 2-0 down against the resilient Burton Albion but Regan Hendry believes they had it in them to take all three points.

Mansfield secured their first away point thanks to Michael Smith’s goal before half-time and a Lucas Akins equaliser in the 70th minute. However, there was scope for Stags to push further, as David McGoldrick saw two goals chalked off throughout the afternoon.

Hendry, who has played in midfield and up front this season and has two League One assists so far, admitted after the match that he thought his side could have come away with more.

“You go 2-0 down and you’re fighting for a point but honestly I think we could’ve got all three,” he reflected. “We had so many chances in the game, especially in the second half to score. So, slightly disappointed with a point but we will take it.”

The point puts Stags on eight for the season so far, while Burton remain just one point ahead. Mansfield could not beat the Brewers last season nor the campaign prior and they will now have to wait to try again for the elusive win.

Nigel Clough, who knows Burton very well as a club, spoke about how tricky they are to beat and Hendry echoed the sentiment.

“They’re always a difficult side to play against and they make it hard for you,” the midfielder said.

However, Burton have lost twice already this season, most recently against Oxford United where the fell 3-0. They were also beaten 2-1 by Notts County last month, so the points are there to be won.

Stags will get another chance to crack the Brewers when they face off at the One Call Stadium in April.
