Rainworth set out on Senior Cup trail

On Tuesday Rainworth MW begin their Notts Senior Cup campaign at the third round stage when they entertain high-flying Central Midlands South club Bulwell.

It is a competition that the Wrens are keen to win, having struggled last season against two clubs from the same division - they needed a penalty shoot-out to beat Newark Town before losing to Sutton Town in the semi-final.

So manager Scott Rickards insists that they will be taking the game seriously and fielding a full side.

“We are not one of those sides with an A team and a B team so it will be a full first team that lines up against Bulwell,” he said.

“And we will not be taking anything for granted - Rainworth saw what happened last season against so-called lesser opposition and I myself have been in the dressing room after matches where we had been expected to win well and were left to reflect on ‘what on earth happened there?’

“We know that in games like these league status does not matter that much, it’s more down to an attitude of mind. A lower-ranked team will always want to put one over on a more senior opponent, and my job will be to ensure that we approach the tie in the right frame of mind to deal with that.”

Supporters should note that reduced admission prices will apply for the Senior Cup tie, with standard admission cut to £5 and concessions reduced to £3.
