Welfare keeper Ben Townsend saved an early Gary Collier shot before Rainworth pressure saw Declan Brewin and Aaron Moxam go close.

Armthorpe always carried a threat and in the 15th minute Stuart Preston’s long range effort went the wrong side of the upright before Rob Ludlam’s shot was just past the post.

Moxam and Brewin both hit the side netting for Rainworth as the scores remained level at the break, Townsend also saving well from an Armthorpe attack.

Debutant Julian Topliss was nearly put Welfare ahead on 49 minutes, while for the hosts, Craig Aspinall hit the woodwork on 62.

The game’s opening goal came in the 69th minute when Moxam combined well with Brewin before finding the corner of the net.

Steve Garner’s 35 yard effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Townsend who also produced a fine stop to deny James Walker from a free-kick.

Rainworth however weren’t to be denied and when Moxam put Brewin through on goal he was brought down by Copley and the referee immediately awarded a penalty.

Moxam made no mistake from the spot giving Copley no chance and seconds later the whistle went for full-time.
