They were up against a slick Arboretum side who led by the only goal at the interval.

Three defensive errors saw them trailing 4-0, at which point they withdrew a defender and threw on substitute Darren Thompson in an unfamiliar forward role as they went on the offensive.

It was an inspired move as Thompson gave his side a lifeline in reducing the deficit, then knocked in another.

However, it was a case of too little, too late as time ran out for Rainbow who lost 4-2.

Bluey’s FC beat a plucky Codnor FC 5-2 in a Dick Windle Cup game.

A Division Two encounter involving The Hay and Littleover HM was evenly contested and remained scoreless at the break with neither side managing to carve out a clear cut opening.

However, the second half belonged almost exclusively to the visitors, who gained due reward for their dominance when Callum Morten scored with a sweetly struck left-foot volley with only ten minutes remaining.

Defender Chris Brassington doubled the lead in the final minutes when he bundled the ball home following a corner kick to give his side a more realistically-looking 2-0 win.
