Race hots up for MAA runners-up spot

Woodborough United remain in second place in the Midland Amateur Alliance Premier League with a 3-2 home win against Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

An own goal gave the home side the lead but Hosiery Mills hit back to level the score 1-1 at half-time.

Two strikes from Mathew Penfold in the second half secured the points for Woodborough. However, Bestwood MW however must be favourites for the runners-up spot following a comfortable 3-0 away victory over Rainworth Rangers.

With four games in hand it is difficult to imagine them not climbing above Woodborough shortly. Old Elizabethans were involved in a nine-goal thriller against FC Coopers.

Despite a hat-trick from Tom Blaney and a strike from Jack Spencer the home side were always trailing and Coopers took their chances for a deserved 5-4 victory.

Ravenshead kept up their recent good form with a 2-0 victory against Beeston Old Boys’ Association.

Craig Stevens opened the scoring for the home side in the first half with Dan Phillips adding a second after the interval.

Southwell City III and Farnsfield drew 1-1 with Will Graves on the scoresheet for the home side.

Derbyshire Amateurs’ efforts to become Division One champions were kept alive with a resounding 6-2 away win against Bilborough Utd Reserves.

They are now only one point behind leaders AFC South Wingfield, who had a free Saturday. Derbyshire opened the scoring with a penalty converted by Matt Alford, followed by a brace each by Mark Hosker and Bradley Scard with Will Riley adding a sixth.

Dean Seymour scored in both halves for Bilborough.

Old Bemrosians good form continued winning 3-0 away to Alvaston United. All three goals were scored in the first half.

Wollaton III who are third in the table had a 3-2 victory against Magdala Amateur Reserves.
