Poor run goes on for Teversal

Teversal’s woeful run continued on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 at home to Rossington Main in the NCEL Division One.

Teversal went in to the game thinking they could pick up a much-needed win, but were again left disappointed.

From the start the visitors pressed forward, forcing a succession of early corners which in the end came to nought.

Teversal’s first real chance of note came on 10 minutes when former Teversal keeper Simon Dye saved at the feet of Toby Birch.

Mark Robinson also came close after receiving a crossfield ball from Matt Langley.

Rossington had all the play around the half-hour mark as Lee Holmes headed wide from a free kick.

They were also unlucky to have claims of a penalty waved away by the officials, and then another free kick was deflected just wide of the upright.

All this pressure told in the 33rd minute when Rossington’s top marksman Lee Holmes opened the scoring as he ran through the defence and unleashed a shot on goal.

Ryan Brooks parried the shot down on the edge of his six yard box, but the power in the shot took it under the keeper and into the empty net.

Holmes was close again five minutes later when racing onto a Teversal back header, but in turn heading it just wide of the post.

Teversal chanced their arm at the break, making a couple of changes, but Rossington continued to ramp up the tempo.

That man Holmes again sent in a shot from the edge of the area which was inches wide.

Teversal forced a good save out of their former keeper with a header from a corner and Aiden Harris sent in a shot across the face which went wide.

On 74 minutes, Rossington and Holmes doubled their advantage for the afternoon when a crossfield ball found Holmes, who fired into the far corner.

Teversal youngster Lewis Weaver had a volley saved by keeper before Main went upfield and added a third goal eight minutes later as Jacob Vernon found the back of the net.
