Central defender Slack also gave away the first-half spot-kick, when Ollerton were a goal down, in a rollercoaster match for Toolstation Northern Counties East League, First Division points.

But he more than redeemed himself when he headed the winner into an unguarded net from Lewis Bingham’s corner in the 83rd minute.

Rossington, who sit just above 15th-placed Ollerton in the 20-team table, bossed the first 25 minutes and took a deserved lead with a speculative, long-range effort from Tyla Bell.

It should have been two when Kabuya Kianga went down under a challenge by Slack, but Owen kept out the penalty, sprawling low to his right.

Minutes later, Ollerton levelled as Tom Moody’s mazy run culminated in him picking out Callum Littlejohn, who hit the target.

The visitors never looked back from those two pivotal moments, and ended the first half on the offensive.

Neither side created an abundance of chances in the second period, but Ollerton looked the more likely to win it, with Sam Stretton going close from a free-kick that fell narrowly wide.

Dave Winter’s side continued to press for the breakthrough and although Rossington resisted stubbornly, they were finally rewarded.

After Slack’s goal, there was no way back for the hosts as Ollerton comfortably held on to their fourth win in five league games.
