Dave Winter’s side also kept their second successive clean sheet, having managed only one all season previously, and the victory enabled them to climb further clear of the bottom two in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League’s First Division.

They will be hopeful of even more success this Saturday when they travel to bottom-of-the-table East Hull, who have picked up only one point in 20 games this term.

Fielding debutant striker Callum Littlejohn, Ollerton were ahead from the ninth minute when Lewis Price reacted quickly to a rebound after Max Dungworth’s effort had been blocked by ‘keeper Leigh Overton.

More chances were well saved by Overton before a deserved, second goal four minutes from the interval. Lewis Bingham latched on to a long through ball from George Slack and lifted it over the advancing ‘keeper.

Armthorpe, who were very much second best in the opening period, improved in the second half and went close when substitute Jack Bonser hit a screamer against the bar from 25 yards.

But Ollerton always looked dangerous when going forward and they sealed the points 15 minutes from time. Bingham’s pass found Sean Dickinson and the midfielder took the ball round Overton and a defender before shooting home.

The win was just the tonic Ollerton needed ahead of their Notts FA Saturday Senior Cup tie this midweek away to Eastwood Community.
