OEs cement second spot as Vineyard wither

Old Elizabethans cemented second place in the Midland Amateur Alliance Premier Division following their 4-2 defeat of Trent Vineyard, who opened up the scoring through Tommaso Faccio before Jonathon Rowbotham equalised straight from the kick-off.

Calum Wilkinson’s goal from the penalty spot, his second of the game, secured a hard-earned victory for OEs, whose other scorer was Jono Jenkinson with Tim Rose replying for TV.

Ross King’s marksmanship proved the difference in Bestwood MWSC’s 5-1 victory over Beeston AFC II.

His four-goal tally followed his hat-trick in his last game.

David Froggatt completed the Bestwood tally whilst Luke Ore netted the consolation goal for Beeston.

The top of Division One clash between leaders Old Elizabethans II and second placed Ravenshead resulted in the two sides swapping positions when Tom King’s goal for OEs was all they could muster against goals from Jamie Simons, Sean Creer-Thornton and Adam Martin.

The 3-1 victory was sweet revenge after OEs had claimed the points earlier in the season. Moorgreen Reserves had the better of a 3-2 scoreline at the expense of Steelers, and this victory enabled them to claim third spot.

At the other end of the division a frustrated Magdala Amateurs A spurned numerous chances after a 25th minute goal from Bridon AFC was all their opponents needed to claim the points.

Alvaston United were better value than their 6-1 defeat by runaway Division Two leaders Watnall Athletic would suggest.

Their consolation goal came from Callum Cossey while Joe Brookes netted four with Martin Ward claiming a double for Watnall.

Derbyshire Amateurs’ second spot was claimed by opponents Southwell St Mary’s as a result of St Mary’s’ 5-2 victory, which saw Adam Allsopp claim a hat-trick and Joe Ness a double.

Triples from both Paul Allen and Ali Daziel, combined with solitary strikes from Sean Priestley and Jordan Slater, brought an 8-1 victory over Sunnydale, who replied through Lewis Croucher. Meanwhile Nottinghamshire III doubled their victories for the seasons by virtue of their 5-1 defeat of Old Bemrosians.
