Notts County to kick off Football League season against Sheffield United

The Magpies will kick-off the Football League season live on Sky Sports as they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Friday, August 2nd for a 7.45 kick-off.

The Football League is to mark the 125th anniversary of its first season (1888.89) with a programme of special anniversary league fixtures to be played on the opening weekend of the 2013.14 campaign, kicking off with Notts’ game against the Blades.

The game was selected as the World’s Oldest Football League Club travel to the world’s oldest professional football ground.

Sky Sports will launch its biggest ever season of live football with coverage of seven Football League matches in just ten days.

Sky’s first five matches will feature all eight founding clubs still in the League, including three special anniversary fixtures matches over the first weekend.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports said: “The new season kicks off here on Sky Sports with a feast of live football for our viewers. Seven live matches in ten days is the perfect start for our biggest ever season of football.”
