NOTTS COUNTY: Moniz wants Salford defeat banished

Notts County boss Ricardo Moniz wants his team to banish the memory of their last outing when they welcome Northampton to Meadow Lane on Saturday.

The Magpies suffered an embarrassing first round exit in the FA Cup at non-league Salford on November 6.

Moniz and his players have had a full fortnight to mull over the result but the Dutch coach says he can’t wait to take on the beleaguered Cobblers and put the Salford loss in the past.

He said: “Everybody was down, but I must be the first person to stand up and be positive.

“We have a massive chance to put ourselves in the picture in the league.

“I went to watch Northampton at Coventry in the FA Cup the day after.

“Action is always the best medicine for disappointment. All of the staff went to watch games.

“The club has a bounce-back mentality.

“Northampton have their problems off the pitch, but I saw them beat Coventry.

“They are a good team. When there are problems like that, it brings the best out of people.

“It brings out hunger.

“When people have too much luxury and are in the comfort zone, people have no character.

“I like that. It’s my life mentality.

“When people have no facilities they are always at the best. It gets massive respect from me.”

Northampton, who are third in League Two, face a winding-up order later this month but despite that hanging over them Moniz knows they will pose a danger to his side.

He added: “In Richards they have a fantastic striker.

“They have Adams and Potter who have unbelievable movement.

“They are very disciplined. What we have to do is create scoring chances against immobile and static defenders.

“They are a good team.

“But pace, skill and penetration will be key.”
