Moniz believes his side possess quality but that they just need to string a series of wins together if they are to improve on their current placing of 18th in League Two.

The Meadow Lane chief made the admission ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.

“It’s a unique situation,” said Moniz.

“The only thing we miss are the results.

“We are not consistent and we should be at the top.

“The coach is not so important. The moment you make players independent you did your job.

“I approach everybody in the same way. Alan Smith and Roy Carroll are treated no differently than the younger players in terms of the job description.”

Moniz also revealed his side aim to stop Wimbledon’s forward Adebayo Akinfenwa, who is well-known for his strength at holding up the ball.

Moniz added: “There is a simple way to deal with that – to have the ball.

“If you have it, you don’t have to defend.

“That’s the philosophy. When you have the ball and you are in their half, then what can they do?

“Ball possession is the best defence”
