Moniz came up against Pompey in the top flight when he was previously employed by Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Saturday’s match pits Moniz and his Notts County side against the South Coast outfit in the fourth tier of English football - something that still surprises the Dutch coach.

He said: “When I worked at Tottenham, Portsmouth were a Premier League side.

“They had players like Jermaine Defoe and Kevin Prince-Boateng and Harry Redknapp was the manager.

“They were very impressive so it is very surprising to me to see them in League Two.

“Portsmouth are a big club with a big fan base.

“I think more than 2,000 will be here at the game tomorrow which is fantastic.”

Moniz admits that although Pompey have a bigger budget, having more money to spend cannot always deliver results.

He added: “They have a big budget, but that means nothing.

“You only have to look at Manchester United going out to Middlesbrough and then last year they lost to MK Dons.

“They are one of the favourites to go up this season and they are worthy of that title.

“But we have our own ambitions.

“We are five or six points off the play-offs and that’s why it’s a very important game.”
