A young Clipstone side were beaten 3-0 Cleethorpes in the NCEL League. Cup fifth round
Chris Millington sent a young but very eager side to play in North Lincolnshire as he rested more experienced players for the gruelling fixture congestion as the season draws to a close.
Clipstone fielded three 17-year-olds and The cobras held out up until the 15 minute mark when a half clearance was picked up by the home sides’ Jack Barlow, who beat the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Cleethorpes doubled their lead just ten minutes later when a long ball over the top allowed Luke Maskell to run on to the left edge of the area.
Maskell swung a left boot to unleash a sweet half volley into the top corner of goal.
Clipstone had a great chance to get back in to the game when Blake Owen beat the offside trap. But he was unable to find the finish needed.
The visitors possibly had the better of the second half in terms of possession and chances created, but on 60 minutes they were forced into a change as Rob Paling was replaced by Stu Hill, with Callum Mawby moving to left back to allow Hill into his normal centre half position.
With time running out Luke Thomas broke away on the right and clipped a ball inside the area, which was half cleared to Levi Walker. Walker then went close as he fired just wide of the bost.
Cleethorpes wrapped the game up when Luke Maskell played in Louis Grant who tapped home from just two yards out in the closing minutes.
