Shirebrook put in a very disappointing derby display against neighbours Teversal on Saturday, losing 3-0 in the NCEL Division One showdown.
The afternoon started badly for Shirebrook when Matty Ord injured himself in the warm-up and was replaced by Luke Thomas in the starting 11.
However, Teversal also lost captain Paul Staniforth pre-match through illness.
The first 20 minutes were very even, but it was Teversal who made the breakthrough.
Greenfield picked up a lay-off from Whittingham with the midfielder’s effort forcing Sheppard to save at the base of the post.
Coupe put the corner into the mix of the six yard box with Siddons punching it to the edge of the 18 yard area. Watson picked up the loose ball to deliver a ball to the far post where Dave Cockerill was on hand to hammer the opener.
Shirebrook didn’t learn from the mistakes when only four minutes later Teversal repeated the same trick and it resulted in the same outcome.
Vincent sent in a free kick that again left the home defence at sixes and sevens, allowing Fisher to positively charge in and time his jump to head home from the mass of players to make it 2-0.
Shirebrook were handed a way back into the match on the 35th minute when Greenfield was brought down in the box by Tittley.
Whittington stepped up but put the penalty wide of the post to sum up the poor display from the home team.
Shirebrook did try to get back into the game at the start of the second half but still struggled to tested Shepherd in the visitors’ net and they were finally put out their misery in the 65th minute when Gary Atkins put the game beyond all doubt to send the visitors home with all three points.
Cockerill held the ball up before releasing Guest to break into the Shirebrook penalty area from the right flank, who unselfishly laid the ball across the six yard box for Atkins to fire home.
On 73 minutes Whittingham might have received a straight red after dangerously going in with a raised foot on Sheppard, leaving the keeper with stud marks down his right thigh. But only a yellow card was awarded and a free kick to Teversal.
As the game drifted to a controlled closure, the nearest the hosts came was a misdirected cross that became a shot from Greenfield that clipped the back of the bar as it dropped over the stranded Sheppard.
Shirebrook are back in action on Saturday when newly promoted Westella VIP make their first ever visit to Langwith Road.
