Clipstone were beaten 5-3 in the Notts Senior Cup final after a dramatic game against Basford United.
The Cobras were on the front foot in the early stages with Jamie Brown going close after good work by Rob Paling.
Callum Mawby then fired an effort just past the right post, before Matty Ord dragged another shot just wide.
But Basford made them pay when Stuart Hendrie scored a magnificent long range effort on 35 minutes.
That was probably Basford’s only shot on target in the entire half, but it was the difference between the two teams at half time.
Clipstone may have wished the first half had not ended when it did as they were slow to get started in the second half.
It was 2-0 on 49 minutes when an unmarked Dion Miekle headed home Josh Thornton’s set-piece.
One minute later it was 3-0 when Stuart Hendrie unleashed another unstoppable drive across the keeper and into the right hand corner of goal.
Within five minutes Stuart Hendrie had secured his hat trick when he blasted home in to the far corner.
But Clipstone showed great charachter as they pulled a goal back on 65 munutes when Mawby cooly slotted home.
Within 10 minutes it was 4-2 when Mawby beat two defenders before firing past Deeney to set up a tense final 15 minutes.
It got even tenser on 87 minutes when Josh Gibson pounced after Deeney has parried Mawby’s effort in to this path.
But the miracle fightback was not to be when Basford hit Clipstone on the break in added time to make it 5-3 through Ruben Wiggins-Thomas.
