AFC Mansfield put a difficult week off the field behind them as they got back to winning ways with a confident 4-1 win over Knaresborough Town.
The Bulls lost chairman Steve Hymas on Thursday after he resigned to join the board of Mansfield Town.
But goals from Jimmy Ghaichem, Joe Naylor, Craig Mitchell and Grant Allott did the damage as AFC picked up three valuable points.
The home side started with a strong wind at their backs and were immediately on the offensive.
It was no surprise that they got an early breakthrough when Jimmy Ghaichem’s curling 20 yard effort flew into the top corner leaving Jack Rushworth rooted to the spot.
The floodgates did not open for the home side as they failed to turn possession in to goals.
Buxton had the ball in the back of the net on the half hour mark, but it was disallowed for offside.
Five minutes later Rushworth superbly saved the midfielder’s edge of the box drive to keep the advantage down to a solitary goal.
Many thought that Knaresborough would mount an assault on the AFC Mansfield goal in the second half, aided by the strong wind at their backs.
But the Bulls doubled their lead three minutes into the re-start when Joe Naylor rose above the pack to head home a Mark Dudley cross.
Craig Mitchell hit a low drive from the edge of the box that beat a fully stretched Rushworth on 68 minutes to make it 3-0.
A rare chance fell to substitute Colin Heath on 73 minutes, but the striker fired wide of the mark from 15 yards.
Declan Brewin saw his effort hooked off the line and Joe Naylor’s follow up crashed against the bar 10 minutes from the end.
Not for the first time Ghaichem was upended just outside the box on 81 minutes. He then delivered an inch perfect cross for Grant Allott to power his header past Rushworth to make it 4-0.
Colin Heath made amends for his earlier miss when, on 87 minutes, he curled a 20 yard free kick into the top right hand corner of the net to complete the scoring.
The Bulls will be on their travels on Saturday when they go to Lincoln Moorlands.
