AFC Mansfield boss Rudy Funk was full of praise for Worksop Town after his side completed a second-half comeback to win 3-1.

Charlie Baird headed the visitors into an early second half lead before the home side hit back, scoring three goals in quick succession through a Matty Plummer double and a Ollie Fearon strike for a 3-1 Northern Counties East League Premier Division win.

Funk said: “First things first – full credit to Worksop. They’re a young side and they certainly stopped me from enjoying the game when they went one up.

“There was a proper dressing down at half-time and ultimately we’ve got the job done, turning this afternoon into a great one for us.”

It took until 65 minutes for the high-flyers to level when Oliver Fearon hit his 43rd goal of the season with a sweetly struck half-volley.

Funk then converted centre-back Matty Plummer into a centre-forward and he came up trumps with two goals in ten minutes.

Reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the 18-yard-box, he stabbed the ball home from Cameron Dear’s effort in the 70th minute to complete the comeback at The Forest Town Arena.

The make-shift striker then added a second five minutes later with a powerful header from eight yards to give his side breathing space.

Following defeat in midweek to Albion Sports, this was the perfect response as the Bulls eye up their final three games in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
