Non-League round-up: Thoresby slip up in derby

Mark Carter and Keenan Leeds put the visitors in front by half-time, Carter scoring his second and Liam Black establishing a four goal lead before Lewis Bingham pulled one back late in the game for Thoresby, who have now taken just one point from their last nine.

Westella VIP emphasised their credentials as promotion challengers with a 5-1 win at Appleby Frodingham which move them into second place behind Clay Cross Town.

The home side took an eighth minute lead through Nathan Watson, but that proved to be Frod’s high point, Andy Coverdale scoring twice before the interval, and completing his hat-trick in the second half, with Rob Petch and Alex Wood also among the goals.

Fourth placed Newark Town had a clear-cut 5-1 win over visitors Bentley Colliery.

Jordan Thomas led the way with a hat-trick, the Blues’ other goals coming from Sam Wilford and James Munson, Dan Read with the Bentley goal.

Harworth Colliery’s impressive recent run continued at Brodsworth Welfare where they enjoyed a 3-1 win.

Tommy Durrant, Ryan Paczkowski and Gaz Sides were the men on target for Harworth, Bradley Maddison scoring Brodsworth’s consolation goal.

Kinsley Boys put Askern to the sword, the final score 7-0. Jack Owen and Mike Brearley both grabbed two, the others coming from Craig Goodyear, Matthew Roberts and Damien Cassell. Ollerton Town edged their game with Easington United 2-1, two goals in four first half minutes from Kye Pilmore and Chris Hewitt seeing them home, the Eastenders’ reply coming from Danny Barron.

At the foot of the table Thorne Colliery picked up their first win since late August as they beat fellow strugglers Phoenix 3-1. Jack Steadman, Cameron Johnson and Jonathan Lugton were Thorne’s match winners, with Rob Gorman replying for Phoenix.

Just three games survived the melting snow, heavy rain combination in the Black Dragon Badges South Division.

Real United made the most of their first outing for a month, winning 7-3 at Holbrook St Michaels. Four goals from Jordan Blair and a Dalton Stephens hat-trick ensured maximum points, with Holbrook’s three coming from Natthawat Arrerat, Charlie McCormack and Idris Kabongo.

The game between Pinxton and Eastwood Community got off to a flyer with both sides scoring in the first two minutes, Nick Hewer’s opener for Eastwood being quickly wiped out by Tom Ellis. Goals by Pete Stubley, Lee Farnsworth and a second from Ellis made the game safe for Pinxton before Steve Wright added another for the visitors.

The local derby between Hucknall Town and Linby Colliery was settled by a spectacular goal by Hucknall’s Leon Aikman, which was enough to give the home side all three points.

Runaway Midland Amateur Alliance Premier Division leaders AS Plant United lost their first points of the season when they were held to a goalless draw by Beeston OBA.

Goals from Daniel Morgan, Gavin Wilson, Adam Thomas and Glen Doyle for FC Coopers went unanswered by Southwell City III who, despite their 4-0 defeat, still hung on to fifth position. Mansfield Hosiery Mills’ David Gibson brought the sides level after Rainworth Rangers had led 1-0 at half-time.

With both sides pushing for victory it was Rangers who ended the stalemate when Ben Hall and Adam Mellors both scored to end the game at 3-1.

Old Elizabethans II leapfrogged Wollaton III into third place in Division One with a 6-2 victory at the expense of Old Bemrosians, who were just a goal down at half-time.

Veteran Dave McCarthy netted alongside Tom King and Sean Goodwin with Callum Wilkinson’s double and an own goal making up the tally.

Dan Neary scored twice from the penalty spot and Callum Barrett also netted a double for Magdala Amateurs Reserves against an understrength Southwell City IV, whose keeper was man of the match as a result of a series of great saves.

In the Precision Notts Senior League Senior Division, Selston twice fell behind at home to Burton Joyce before coming back to win 3-2.

Sam Buckle and Ryan Easom scored for BJ, either side of a Sean Gregory penalty for Selston, to take the visitors in at the break 2-1 up.

Two second half goals from Dominic Airey then gave Selston the victory that maintained their three point lead in the table.

Wollaton remain hot on their heels following a 5-0 win over Sandhurst. The goals were shared between Ryan Bowen, Dane Rawson, Leon Stockley, Jordan Alls and Marcus Johnson.

West Bridgford are up to third after they defeated Bilborough Town 5-1.

Tim Hopkinson (2) William Heath, Aaron Large and Patrick Newsome were the Bridgford scorers; Matthew Wilcox grabbed Bilborough’s consolation.

Gareth Bentley scored on his debut for Beeston in a 2-2 draw away at Cotgrave after signing from Burton Joyce.

Jamie Kirkby had opened the scoring for Cotgrave before Bentley and Craig Howkins put the visitors in front. Beeston conceded a penalty with five minutes remaining and Kyle Waddell fired it home for the hosts to ensure the points were shared.

Michael Leslie and Tristan Rhodes put Ruddington Village two up away at Attenborough.

They couldn’t hold onto the lead, however, as two goals from Mark Green and one from Aiden Blewitt gave Boro the 3-2 win.

Bingham Town and Keyworth United played out a 1-1 draw at Butt Field. Ryan Perkins gave United the lead before they were pegged back by Nick Gammon, who fired home the rebound from Ed Hodgson’s blocked shot.

PMG Cavaliers were 2-1 winners away at Awsworth Villa.

In Division One, Newark Flowserve extended their run of league wins to 13 as they overcame Magdala Amateurs 3-1.

Jordan Mack, Mark Ballard and Liam Moran scored for Flowserve, Brendon Jackson for The Budgies.

Ruddington Village Reserves won by the odd goal in seven at home against Wollaton Reserves. The visitors were partly the architects of their own downfall as they put through their own net twice.

Samuel Dunstan and Sam Rothwell were also on target for Ruddington; Alex Doyle, Luke Sharp and Anthony Fragola for Wollaton.

Hucknall Rolls Leisure Reserves came out on top in the local derby against Linby Colliery Welfare Reserves, prevailing 3-1. Matt Rick bagged a brace and Andy Start one for Rolls; Simon Mason netted for Linby.

Netherfield Albion went three up, through James Leivers, Ryan Fowler and Louis Tambini, away at Nottinghamshire. Ultimately they held on for a 3-2 win after Daryl Rose and Mark Greensmith brought the hosts back into the match.

Southwell City Reserves and Gedling Southbank shared the points after neither side could find the net in their encounter.

In Division Two, Watnall Athletic moved into top spot with a 4-0 win over Underwood Villa Reserves.

Robbie England put Bilborough United ahead at home to Nottinghamshire Reserves. The visitors hit back through Perry Foster and Richard Poku to secure the 2-1 victory.
