Nine man Rainworth held on to secure a 2-2 draw at Market Drayton in an eventfual FA Trophy Preliminary Round cup tie.

The visitors had been leading 2-1 before Mitchell was red carded on 83 minutes and Freeman on 88 minute for dissent following Market Drayton’s equaliser.

Within 26 seconds of the kick-off Rainworth took then lead when Craig Mitchell’s cross found Grant Ryan whose shot found the back of the net.

The home side came back and had a chance when Alex Hedley fired over on four minutes.

Market Drayton’s Jordan Johnson then outpaced Tommy Hannigan, but his well hit shot cleared the crossbar.

A minute later he created another chance but his tame effort was easily gathered by Liam Roberts.

Roberts then showed what a good shot stopper he is when he held Cohen Bramall’s free-kick at full stretch.

Then chances at either end saw Joseph Woolley put his effort well over the Rainworth crossbar, before Mitchell’s free-kick picked out Freeman who failed to take advantage.

Market Drayton’s William Whieldon almost equalised only to see Roberts tip his effort over straight after the restart.

But Market Drayton’s persistence paid when Bramall headed home from a corner in the 60th minute.

Rainworth then went straight down the other end to score when debutant Alex Kenlock scored after he had cracked his initial effort against the crossbar.

The visitors had the next chance when Kenlock fired wide after creating space in the 78th minute.

But the game changed in the 83 minute when Mitchell picked up his second yellow card of the game.

Market Drayton levelled with three minutes to go when Wooley scored from the spot after Hannigan was ruled to have handled in the box.

Freeman was then sent off for dissent leaving Rainworth to defend the last two minutes with nine men.

They managed to negotiate that without any further damage, but on the final whistle what should have been a Rainworth victory had the feel of a defeat.

The replay was played on Tuesday night as Chad went to press, with Kings Lynn awaiting the winners.
