Nicky Law disappointed by Alfreton Town’s performance at FC Halifax Town

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law voiced his disappointment after seeing his side have their three-match winning run ended by a 2-0 defeat at play-off rivals FC Halifax Town on Monday evening.

The Reds boss felt his side never really got going and failed to match FC Halifax’s high tempo.

Law said: “They came out and played at a really high tempo that they would normally have to do against us, and then unfortunately, we couldn’t match it.

“We were nowhere near it, we were way off it in too many areas.

“We have come here and tried to play in an offensive way, we have gone and put three up front, but if I am honest, there was very little impact all game, and then you are on the back foot.

“You have seen the difference. You look at (Lee) Gregory and he has played up there pretty much on his own and he has occupied them (the Reds defence) all and done well. He works hard, but when the ball comes in he gets hold of it.

“They are two poor goals to give away. He (Gregory) has come off, turned on the edge of the box and we have not come tight with him.

“The second one he has just checked his run and got in far too easy. I am disappointed with the two goals we have given away.

“Credit to them, they have come out and played at a high tempo. They do what they do and they do it well and they stick to it and unfortunately we didn’t have enough players who could stand up to it.

“I have no complaints, we have been well beaten. In spells, we showed little flashes of what we are about.

“We showed spells, but for me we haven’t worked at the normal tempo that we do and we have been found lacking in a couple of areas.”

Law opted to go 4-3-3 for the game but admitted it hadn’t really worked.

“You would think that three (up front) could be a threat but it isn’t. As a three, they can’t work it out, and we weren’t bright enough.

“I am massively disappointed. We are still in the play-offs but we could have really took advantage and stretched the lead from sixth spot to where we are to seven, but we haven’t and we have got to go and get a reaction on Saturday, that’s what it’s about.

This Saturday Alfreton have another huge six-pointer with a top-four clash against Nuneaton Town at the Impact Arena (3pm).
