Nicky Law confident Alfreton Town can cause FA Cup shock

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law insists his side are capable of producing an upset in this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Macclesfield Town.

The Reds have lost their last three league games in succession but those defeats have been interspersed by two very good away wins in the cup and Law is now looking for his young side to go out and show what they can do against higher ranking opponents.

“Macclesfield away is certainly not the ideal tie and will be a tough game” said the Reds boss.

“But, I think their manager John Askey will know that we will be tough opposition and I am sure they will approach the tie in the right way.

“To be honest, we are in a win-win scenario as nobody is really expecting us to get through so we will just go and give it our best shot and see where it takes us, hopefully it will be enough.

“We need not fear them, just respect them and be mindful of their threats and weaknesses.

“Whoever you play at this stage is a tough draw as every team left in the competition is wanting to get into the first round proper.

“We are certainly capable of winning the game but one thing is for sure and that is that we are going to have to perform far better all round than we did at both Hednesford and Tamworth in the last two rounds.

“It is a great opportunity for our players to test themselves against a well-established National League side and to see how far away our squad are from the next level.”

Law is still smarting from last weekend’s 2-1 league defeat at Boston United but says the squad just have to put it behind them and get on with things.

“How we lost last Saturday I still don’t know. We dominated the game from start to finish and ended up with nothing but that’s how it goes sometimes. We just have to move on and this weekend’s cup tie gives us a great chance of doing just that.”
