The newly appointed New Mills manager Keith Briggs has expressed his delight at the progress the Millers have made in such a short space of time.
Briggs was only appointed a couple of weeks ago and he and his management team were faced with less than ideal preparation time for the new season.
However, after a number of gruelling training seasons Briggs young squad has hit the ground running and produced a noticeable scalp last week when they defeated a young Rochdale AFC team 2-1.
“Clearly the result was nice, but i was most pleased with the commitment and quality of our football, especially in the 1st half,” said Briggs.
Saturday’s 1-0 at Runcorn Town was less impressive, however, Briggs was keen to point out that he is using pre season to experiment and is using his full squad in each game.
He added: “I felt we started slowly on Saturday, however, we improved as the game progressed and were unlucky not to score at least once.
“It will take time for some of the team to gel as there are only 3 or 4 left from last season, so i expect a few indifferent results early on.
“I am hoping to supplement the squad with a few experienced players in a couple of key positions so hopefully there should be some arrivals between now and the start of the season.”
The Millers are at home to League 1 Sheffield United on Thursday 23rd July (7.30pm kick off) and this will prove a good test for Briggs’ young side.
On Saturday 25th July the Millers travel to Congleton Town (3pm).
New Mills have organised a beer festival over the weekend of Friday 7th to Sunday 9th August. As part of this the Saturday (8th August) is a family fun day and includes a Millers Development Squad game against Chapel Town (3pm kick off). Admission is free.
