New Mansfield & Ashfield U13s Schools side on the march in national cup

Playing together competitively for only the second time, Mansfield & Ashfield Boys Schools U13s moved into the second round of the ESFA U13 Inter Association Trophy with a confident, entertaining 3-1 win at Hemsworth.

Joel Cooke(Garibaldi) headed close in the opening minutes, and when the visitors eventually mastered the home side’s well-drilled offside trap, they created several good chances before

Harrison Day (Quarrydale) broke from midfield to score.

Wakefield had a good spell of play before half-time, but the Mansfield & Ashfield defence gave a very solid display then, and throughout the game.

The second half threatened to be a very one-sided affair with Mansfield & Ashfield in full control.

They had several good scoring opportunities before Lee Buchannon (Samworth) lashed the ball home from close range.

Theo Rodney (Joseph Whitaker) and Kyle Bacon (Samworth) had good chances foiled before Rodney broke clear to make it 3-0.

A last minute rare defensive error allowed Sam Mitchell to net any easy chance for the home side.
