New managers at Shirebrook Town

Shirebrook Town have appointed Mark Camm and Danny Bacon as permanent first team managers on a long term deal after this week’s axing of boss Kev Gee (pictured) and assistant Ian Whyte.

Club president James Doody also quashed rumours he was considering leaving the Northern Counties East League club and maintained his ambition was to bring Evo-Stik league football to Langwith Road.

Although the club were without a game last weekend due to the weather, it has been a busy week off the field which began with the news that the management duo had been sacked.

A statement from Doody said: “Both Kevin Gee and Ian Whyte have been released from their roles on the management team of Shirebrook Town Football Club with immediate effect.

“Following much deliberation and consideration, both the club’s president and chairman Daniel Marsh agreed that the club needed a management team that would provide consistency and a long term solution for the club.

“We thank Kevin and Ian for their services and wish them all the best for the

future.”

A subsequent statement announced: “I am delighted to announce that Mark Camm and Danny Bacon have been appointed as first team managers on a long term deal up until the end of the 2015/16 season.

“Over the last 21 months the chairman and I have been striving to find long term solution to the club’s management and we are delighted that we have finally landed our men on a long term deal.

“Mark and Danny tick all the right boxes and we are really excited about the future and now know we can all relax knowing the long term future is in good hands.

“Both men are from the area and know the town and people really well. In addition they are both ex-professional footballers and now also have a direct insight into Northern Counties football.

“It’s a perfect blend and they will get all the time and support they require from the people behind the scenes at the club.”

A third statement then went deeper into current issues at Langwith Road with Doody announcing: “Any business, especially a football club, should not wash its dirty linen in public.

“However, given the level of speculation and conjecture at the moment I am going to break with my instincts and usual practices and make certain things clear. These are the facts.

“I am not baling anywhere. I never have and I never will do. I am committed to the club and the target as ever is to get this club into the Evostik. I will be at this club until at least the end of the 2015/16 season or as long as you’ll have me.

“The same applies to the rest of the valued committee. We will all continue to work hard for nothing to improve this football club.

“No budgetary changes have taken place or will take place during the season. We set an annual playing budget and this is fixed.

“Mark Camm and Danny Bacon have been at the club since the start of the season. They were earmarked a year ago as young, talented individuals who knew the area, had great footballing pedigrees and would form part of a fantastic long term management team for our club.

“They needed time to learn the Northern Counties League and establish a better understanding of this level, having only ever played at higher levels.

“They are a really exciting long term team for us who have a deal which runs until the end of the 2015/16 season.

“We will all be working hard to achieve our mutual goals and the support of the fans home and away is vital to this.

“We have the best ground and the best support in the league and a bright, young management team with ability, contacts and my full backing. Let’s all pull together and enjoy a fantastic few years.”

The duo will be at the helm for the first time on Saturday when they are at home to Hemsworth MW.
