National League clubs can begin voting on whether or not they want to 2020-21 season to end... although the process is not entirely straightforward.

Last night the 66 member clubs received resolutions, asking them to put forward the outcome they want to see, due to the ongoing funding row.

A special resolution has been sent out, along with three ordinary resolutions - which will be based on the outcome of the special resolution (Resolution One).

The resolutions are:

Resolution One (all clubs):

Clubs are asked whether they want to vote on the outcome of their own step (step one being the National League and step two being the National League North and South) or vote as one body. A vote for is a vote in favour of each step being in control of their own destiny.

Resolution Two (National League only):

If Resolution One is passed, National League (step one) clubs will vote whether or not they want to end their own season.

Resolution Three (National League North and South Only):

If Resolution One is passed, clubs from the National League North and South will vote whether or not to conclude the step two season. However, if Resolutions One and Two are passed then Resolution Three may become immaterial as continuing a season with no promotion or relegation may well be deemed a waste of time.

Resolution Four (all clubs):

If Resolution One is not passed, then all 66 member clubs will vote on the outcome of the entire National League (steps one and two).

Resolution One would need a 75 per cent majority to be passed, while the three remaining resolutions need a 50 per cent majority.

If that doesn't seem complicated enough, the voting system isn't necessarily one vote per club.

For Resolutions One and Four, each National League club has one vote, while the North and South have four votes per league.

Resolutions Two and Three will be voted on in a one club, one vote system.

Clubs have 28 days to return their voting submissions.

The National League has continued playing while the North and South are currently in a two-week suspension, due to be ended on Friday.

Matches are scheduled for this Saturday, with Alfreton Town set to host York City, but some clubs have already stated they do not wish to resume.

The North and South have been suspended as funding from the National Lottery - to compensate for lost revenue as fans are still not allowed to attend matches - ran out in December.

Clubs have been offered long-term loans to allow football to continue, but many sides – including the Reds – have stated they would rather null and void the season rather than take on debt.

Clubs are meeting with Sport England this morning to further discus the availability of loans and grants, hoping to get a clearer picture before voting.
