The new team will play as a full reserve team in the Final Third Development League and first team boss Murray said: “I am shocked.

“The applicant level that has gone in for the job has been tremendously high.

“Some of the people that have applied for the job have done a great deal in football. So we are privileged to have that option from which to choose someone to take on that position.

“That group, as well as the youth team, will be huge next season as we are going to need some of the kids at times to come into the first team.

“So that link between the youth team and first team is going to be big.

“It will be in a so-called reserve league and it’s something new for us.”

Murray revealed this week that departing striker Chris Beardsley turned the job down in favour of prolonging his playing career following his release by the Stags.
