Midfielder Jamie McGuire has agreed a deal to rejoin former boss Adam Murray at Boston United to continue his playing career while coaching at Mansfield Town.

The 33-year-old retired from full-time professional football this week to accept the offer of his first coaching role with the Stags’ U21 side.

But McGuire was reluctant to completely hang up his boots, so ex-Stags manager Murray stepped in to add the combative midfielder to the Pilgrims’ ranks for next season’s Vanarama National League North campaign.

Murray said: “He had offers from League Two clubs but has chosen a pathway that leads him to choose a part-time option now.

“He’s a leader of men with fantastic experience and I am over the moon he choose us to move forward with his journey.”

Murray has also moved Boston’s training base to just off the M1 near Mansfield to try to help attract more players by being more central.

Early signs are good and Murray said: “The number of players we have had meetings with in the past two weeks has been unbelievable.

“We are already seeing players and agents lower their terms and expectations.”
