It follows discussions on Friday between clubs and the EFL, with the final table will be decided on a points-per-game basis.

But the clubs are believed to favour a weighted points-per-game system, to take into account average points won home and away in order to make it fairer for teams who have played more away games than rivals.

It would mean Swindon would be crowned champions instead of Crewe, with Plymouth taking third spot.

The play-offs would then involve the same teams but see Cheltenham move above Exeter into fourth.

Stags boss Graham Coughlin had previously indicated his belief that the season could not continue.

“It is very hard to think about football and what is going to happen, given the amount of people we are losing daily,” he added.“In my own personal opinion, I don’t see how we can finish the season. It is what it is and we will adjust to whatever circumstances are chucked our way.“First and foremost we must be thinking of the people we are losing, which is very very sad.”
