The Stags revealed today that the Pleasley-based facility will be named the RH Academy as the projects nears completion.

The venue’s name – short for The Radford & Hymas Academy – honours the two benefactors, chairman John Radford and academy director Steve Hymas, whose funds have made the project possible.

The duo’s company - Mansfield Town developments – has supplied £1.5m to the project, while the company was also awarded a £500,000 grant from the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund.

Mansfield Town chairman John Radford said: “The opening of the new training ground will be a significant moment and a real leap forward.

“The site and its facilities will be beneficial for many different areas of Mansfield Town Football Club as well as the local community.

“A new hub such as this will enable people to improve, progress and fulfil their aspirations. Those characteristics are at the very heart of our organisation.”

The state-of-the-art facility will boast a new full-sized and floodlit 3G pitch, built to FIFA standards. Furthermore, three-full sized grass pitches and a mini-pitch will make the facility a hive of activity at weekends.

The pavilion will consist of four dressing rooms, showers and associated physio rooms.

Also, a function room will be situated on the ground floor, which will include kitchen facilities to allow the room to be used by the local community for functions.

Located on the first floor will be two classrooms and offices which will be used as an education hub.

Stags’ academy director and project manager Steve Hymas said: “We are very proud to have built this project, not only for our young aspiring footballers, but for the whole community.

“Its legacy will be long lasting.”

The facility is due to open in late September providing no delays are encountered.
