Manager David Flitcroft elected to keep his first team squad players together ahead of Saturday’s massive home clash with Port Vale, saying: “We have gone with a younger team today.

“We want to run our eyes over the young pros for next season. We know what our players can do and we have kept the squad together this week.

“This gives us a good chance to have a look at the younger players and see what challenge they represent to the rest of the players.

“I have already introduced three or four young, enthusiastic lads into our environment and it’s made a difference.”

He added: “They’ve got no fear. They have an energy about what they do and an enthusiasm to come into work every single day to improve and get better.

“John Dempster and Coops (Richard Cooper) have done a fantastic job in getting them in and around the first team training programme.

“We will continue to keep monitoring these players and using their energy and enthusiasm.”
