Wycombe boss proud of record at Mansfield

The visitors created the better chances in a game to forget on a night of strong wins and incessant rain and it is now over 10 years since Stags got the better of Wycombe at home.

“I am very proud of that record,” smiled Ainsworth.

“We pride ourselves on being tough to beat and organised.

“It shows what a good point that is for us. Now we have to build on it and we are hoping some of our players are back for Saturday. It was a really good point and I am really pleased.”

Were it not for the brilliance of Stags keeper Conrad Logan in the first half, Wycombe could have won the game.

“I thought we could have nicked it. We were unlucky not to get all three points,” said Ainsworth.

“First half we were the better side and then second half the conditions really levelled everything and it was difficult to get the ball down and play at all.

“For the first 20 minutes we were on the back foot a little bit but then after that we should have scored in that melee.

“Second half there weren’t many chances or shots on goal but I think the conditions played a bit part in that. It was a right old night.

“I thought we handled the conditions the better in the second half and first half I thought we played so much the better stuff against the title favourites.

“There is a tinge of disappointment in not getting all three points but I think a lot of us would have taken a point before the game tonight.

“With some big players missing, it showed what a squad we have with two EFL debutants – I think it’s the best I’ve ever had.

“It stopped us in our tracks when the referee came off injured in the first half – we were really on top at that moment. That break almost let them back in it.”
