MANSFIELD Town revealed ahead of the big kick-off to the new season on Saturday that they have extended the contract of wingman Louis Briscoe - who had been the subject of a bid from another Blue Square Bet Premier club.
Last season’s player of the year, Briscoe signed on the dotted line to stay at Field Mill until August 2013 - extending his contract by another year.
Manager Paul Cox said of the winger who scored 19 goals last season: “This is the excellent news for the club. We had a bid from another club in our league, but it was well below Louis’ valuation.”
The Stags declined to name the club involved, but rumours suggested that Luton, as well as a Football League club, were interested in the wingman.
Cox also told the club’s official website www.mansfieldtown.net: “I have spoken to Louis and he was delighted to commit his future to us.”
