VIDEO: Snow forces postponement of Stags v Macclesfield Town game UPDATE

Mansfield Town’s big home game against Macclesfield Town has been called off after more heavy snow fell over Mansfield through the night.
Joint operations director Paul Broughton said:  “The match has been called off on both public safety grounds and because of the pitch.”

A pitch inspection was set for mid-morning, but with 5ins of snow on the pitch, a referee took a look at 9am and decided there was no chance.

It is a second blow to Stags in a week with Tuesday’s massive showdown at Wrexham also falling victim to the weather with a waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere in the games that were played, leaders Kidderminster took their chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to three points with a 3-1 win at Southport. But Stags now have three games in hand on them. And Stockport did Mansfield a big favour by beating Stags’ promotion rivals Newport County 1-0.

Today’s Blue Square Bet Premier Division game between Braintree Town and Alfreton Town has also been postponed due to a snowbound Cressing Road pitch.

The Reds’ fixture has been rearranged for next Thursday, 28th March with a 7.45pm kick-off.
