Cup winner Dave Beasant will forever be remembered as the first goalkeeper to save an FA Cup final penalty.
Beasant’s finest moment came when he palmed away John Aldridge’s spot-kick as Wimbledon went on to beat Liverpool in the 1988 final.

But that moment of history may never have happened had Beasant not pulled off an equally good save during the fourth round as The Dons travelled north to face Mansfield Town on 30th January 1988.
Beasant dived the same way to pull off a vital penalty save as the Londonders survived a scare to go through 2-1.
The rest is history as Wimbledon went on to defeat Newcastle, Watford and Luton on the way to their final success.
