The only way was Essex for Mansfield Town Football Club and their army of supporters today as they headed to Braintree Town for their possible day of destiny.

Mansfield knew that a win over mid-table Braintree, coupled with Kidderminster failing to win at Wrexham in the televised 5.15pm kick-off at the Racecourse Ground, would see the Stags crowned BSBP champions and return to the Football League after a five year exile.

Manager Paul Cox named an unchanged side and unchanged bench from Tuesday;s 3-1 win over Macclesfield to take on the Essex part-timers who have already played on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

BRAINTREE: McDonald, Paine, Massey, Wells, Habergham, Symons, Mulley, Daley, Davis, Wright, Sheppard. Subs: Woodyard, Sparkes, Smith, Naisbitt, Holman.
STAGS: Marriott; Beevers, Jones, Dempster, Taylor; Howell, Murray, Stevenson; Briscoe, Green, Daniel. Subs: Sutton, Meikle, Rhead, Hutchinson, Chapman.
REFEREE: Brett Huxtable of Torrington, Devon.
