Tigers test for top scorer Rose

Last season's top scorer, Danny Rose, will get his first competitive action of pre-season in Mansfield Town's specially arranged behind-closed-doors friendly away to Hull City on Wednesday (11.30am).

The striker has been trying to recover from a toe injury that ruined the end of last season for him and that has kept him out of all the pre-season games so far, including tomorrow night’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday (7.30).

“He won’t feature against Sheffield Wednesday, but we have got a game that Danny will play some part in on Wednesday at Hull’s training ground,” said manager David Flitcroft.

“We have been able to arrange that so Danny can get some game time and we’ll see where he’s up to in a competitive game.

“It will be good to look at Danny and his progress.

“The players have worked really hard for four weeks now on their base fitness and game time is going up for them.

“So it’s now important that as a team and as a support system we fall back on Danny now and give him the required work. If not he will break down again or break down sometime in the season.

“It’s a massive effort from our technical and support staff to make sure they keep working on the 20-22 players and drive them forward, giving them what they need, but also giving Danny what he needs as well.”
