Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox is hunting a new goalkeeper on a non-contract basis to provide cover for Sascha Studer.
Cox had hoped to use youth team goalkeeper Adam Bishop as understudy for the Swiss shot-stopper.
But the promising 16 year-old, who was once on the books of Derby County, has been ruled out for up to two weeks after picking up a knock.
Said Cox: “We are currently looking at getting in a goalkeeper on a non-contract basis who has league experience.
“We do not want to risk Sascha breaking down in the warm-up on Saturday and having to put an outfield player in goal.
“This is an area we are currently working hard to sort out.
“We have got some promising young goalkeepers at this club, but it is about bringing them through at the right time and at the right place so that we do not damage them.”
Mansfield Town kick off their league campaign away at Northampton on Saturday in what is likely to be a tough opening fixture.
